BCLL has a long and storied history in tournament play in both baseball and softball. Annually, BCLL fields teams in multiple divisions that compete at the District levels with an opportunity to advance to State tournaments held throughout Virginia. With countless District and State titles over its near 75-year existence, BCLL has established itself as a top performing organization in Virginia.
Tournament play typically begins in early to mid-June and continues to the end of June. If a team wins their District tournament, they advance to the State Tournament. State tournaments usually start in early July.
BCLL encourages experienced players—those who best represent the combined attributes of physical ability, baseball and softball knowledge, positive attitude, and dedication to their sport—to compete in All Stars. The criteria for selection must be limited to eligibility, availability, and ability.
All-Stars Tournament Eligibility
• Players must have played in at least eight (8) regular season games with the exception of those participating in high school ball (Varsity and JV). For the high school exception, a player must have participated in at least 60% of the games available to them.
• Players must be able to attend 90% of all practices and 100% of All-Star games. The All-Star Committee and Manager may approve absences in exceptional circumstances.
All-Stars Commitment
Being selected to play on a tournament team is a significant time commitment for players and their families. The tournament season starts in late-May and ends between late-June to mid-July or later if teams advance to regionals or beyond. Practices are frequent (daily) and full participation is expected.
• Players must be able to attend 90% of all practices and 100% of the All-Star games. The All-Star Committee may approve absences in exceptional circumstances.
• Parents MUST be prepared to VOLUNTEER to support the All-Star process in order for their child to play. This could include any one of a number of roles that the league or team managers will assign.
• Parents of players on teams that advance to the state tournaments may also have additional costs incurred for travel and hotel expenses.
All-Stars Tournament Selection Process
Any player wishing to be considered for an All-Star team must be eligible and complete the Intent to Play Form.
Majors (10/11/12) Baseball and Softball:
• Each player in the Major division will be allowed to vote for up to three (3) players to participate on their respective Major All-Star team. Each player may vote for any selection-pool player in their respective division, including themselves, only once. The top 3 will be placed on the All-Star Team.
• Division managers, the Player Agent, and members of the All-Star Committee will conduct a Player Selection meeting where players in the selection pool will be discussed/evaluated and then selected via a voting process.
All other divisions Baseball and Softball:
• Division managers of eligible players, the Player Agent, and members of the All-Star Committee will conduct a Player Selection meeting where players in the selection pool will be evaluated and selected via a voting process.
Players will be evaluated based on their performance in the current season; including attributes such as positive sportsmanship, leadership, and respect for the game.
All players, including previous tournament players, are not guaranteed to be selected.
